New Zealand’s Southern Alps have always called to us. Our guide on our Alaska sheep hunt was a Kiwi. And then we met Marcell Powell, another Kiwi, hunting deer in Mexico. But it wasn’t until we met Joe Fluerty in 2022 that the trip became real. With Joe’s help, we applied for the Tahr block ballots and won a coveted landing permit. That set the date.

This trip changed us. Hunting New Zealand is now as large a part of what we do as Coues deer hunting Sonora. The mountains are breathtaking. The animals are awe-inspiring. This is a trip every mountain hunter should do at least once. For us, we’re going to do it every year.
