Desert Sheep

April 8, 2025

I thought about subtitling this little short film: how to ruin a kid’s life.

But, I didn’t.

It references an inside jab between me and Chase, when Laney, his oldest daughter drew a coveted, maybe hopefully once-in-a-lifetime desert sheep tag. Chase references our conversation in the film when he notes, “She may not know what she’s done, but I sure do. And I’ll always remind her of it.”

Editing this footage, I wanted to keep it short and fun. We didn’t have a lot of footage to pull from, as the hunt was short-lived. So I made it peppy, with a handful of early beat cuts to begin. I also wanted the emotion of the moment to set in when she killed the ram.

She may not know what she’s done. But she can always look back on this video as a reminder of what is undoubtedly one of the most special moments between a father and daughter.

Cheers to you, Laney.
